Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life

Talent Bank

"I would have appointed a woman if I knew one who was qualified or interested." The Institute for Women in Public Life is determined to make that phrase obsolete. We would like to replace it with, "There were so many impressive women candidates that I chose several so the board now has a balance of men and women, just like our community."

All levels of government, from federal to local, are run by a mix of elected officials, professional employees, and citizens who volunteer their time to serve on policy committees. To assist individuals in having access to this process, the Institute has developed a Talent Bank as a resource to government appointing authorities. In 1998, the Women Legislators of Missouri decided to turn their data base of women interested in appointments over to the Institute, making the Talent Bank the most comprehensive database of women in the state.

A key element in the success of the Talent Bank is a strong cooperative relationship between the Institute and the individuals who make appointments locally and statewide. The Institute has developed a reputation for consistently providing outstanding woman candidates, and offers professional development opportunities for interested women through information and skill-based programs related to boards and commissions.

If you are interested in serving on a government board or commission and would like to become a member of the Talent Bank, please contact the Institute at 314-516-4727 to request a "Public Service Personal Profile" or click on the links below.
